Mandated Training Requirements – ALL MODALITIES
Each provider, assistant and alternate provider must complete a minimum of fifteen hours of training during their first six (6) months of licensing or registration. A total of thirty (30) hours must be completed every two years.  Training must also address all of the following nine (9) topic areas (SACC exempt from SBS #9):

  1. Principles of childhood development
  2. Nutrition & health needs of infants & children
  3. Child care program development
  4. Safety and security procedures
  5. Business record maintenance & management
  6. Child abuse & maltreatment identification & prevention
  7. Statutes & regulations pertaining to child care
  8. Statutes & regulations pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment
  9. Education & information on the identification, diagnosis, and prevention of shaken baby syndrome
  10. Adverse Childhood Experiences; focused on understanding trauma and on nurturing resiliency

NEW DCC and SACC DIRECTORS
All new Directors of Day Care Centers or School-Age Child Care programs hired on or after October 1, 2017, will be required to complete an OCFS 15-hour health and safety classroom training either pre-service or within 3 months of their start date as Director. In addition, current Directors who have not completed the Foundations in Health and Safety eLearning by September 30, 2017, will also be required to complete the OCFS 15-hour health and safety classroom training. There is a cost associated with this training. This training aims to provide DCC and SACC Directors with information on best practices that lead to high-quality child care.
