Wall Calendars Endure Despite Calendar Apps

It may seem counter-intuitive that a print product, like a wall calendar can thrive in the digital age. But the continued success of wall calendars mirrors that of printed books, an industry that several years ago was confronting the possibility that e-books would outsell them.

Instead, a Pew survey found that most readers still preferred their reading material printed on paper.

Perhaps the demand for printed wall calendars will change in the future, but for now, the average number of printed calendars in households is 3.12 according to a study sponsored by the Promotional Products Association International and the Calendar Advertising Council.

The kitchen remained the prime display location, with 75 percent of respondents saying they had a wall calendar there.

Although figures are down from historic highs, a bright spot in the industry remains promotional calendars, like those distributed by real estate agents, medical professionals, insurance companies and other businesses. As a percentage of sales of promotional products, those calendars have held steady or increased slightly according to industry figures.

Studies have found that 82 per cent of recipients enjoy getting a calendar as a complimentary gift and 70 per cent plan to do business with the company that provided the calendar.

This year, the Child Care Council of Orange County will be printing and distributing a children’s themed calendar to 2,500 families in Orange County, NY. The calendar will feature ads from various local business owners who want to be noticed by their community.

Since the average household size in New York is 3 people, the calendar and ads within each month, will be seen every day by at least 7,500 people.

For a limited number of businesses, The Child Care Council is also displaying the ads on their website which gets between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors per month. To avoid ad saturation, this is limited to a select few business owners, based on the level of advertising.

The main reason for the calendar is to create top of mind awareness for families looking for safe, legal child care within Orange County. It also helps employers with employees that have children. The wall calendar will be a constant reminder that  help is just a phone call, or click away.

Most adults will welcome a beautiful wall calendar that also outlines daily activities for their children.  This multi-purpose calendar will be a practical addition to any home.

If you are a business owner looking for exposure in the Orange County, NY area, consider this type of low-cost, offline/online advertising for your business.
